It took me a while to get around to writing this. However, it's been on my heart to share this with you guys since the day it happened. Not too long ago, God opened an amazing opportunity to speak life and proclaim victory over Satan's works in the life of a young woman here in Thailand. It's quite an interesting story actually.
As you may have read in one of my previous blogs, I'm required to leave the country every three months as a foreigner. This time around, I actually had to go and obtain a brand new visa, which meant an overnight stay in another country and going to the embassy. So my wife and I decided to take a family trip to Kuala Lumpur, in the heart of Malaysia. We flew our way into the country and the following morning got over to the embassy to turn in my application for a new visa. While we were waiting for the embassy doors to open, a young woman caught notice of our beautiful daughter Caiah, and began asking questions of her. This lead into an awesome opportunity for God to move.
The woman was also there to renew her visa into Thailand. She worked in a hotel resort in a another province of Thailand. Her boyfriend, whom she had met when she came here, was a man working from Burma, and she told me how the two had fallen in love. Such a beautiful story. However, she also told me that the two had encountered some problems. This young man was a hardcore Buddhist and she was a young woman with a protestant background looking for answers. It's funny how God opens doors like these. I had only told her that I was in Thailand as a missionary, and she felt comfortable enough to open up and ask me for some guidance.
On our way out of the embassy, the young woman asked me for some advice. She began speaking about how her boyfriend's friend was some sort of a Buddhist monk. He saw the two together and “prophesied” that the only way the two's relationship would work is if she became Buddhist. The woman told me how she always felt weird around this guy and that his “ora” was very dark and weary. He also had spoken over here that she was going to encounter an accident and hurt her leg, which apparently came true. It really freaked her out because he had also spoken over her that within a few months time from when we were talking, she was going to be hit by a car and possibly killed. She wasn't a practicing Christian or anything, but she felt weird both about dedicating herself to Buddhism and listening to the words of this man. Without hesitation, she asked me what my beliefs were in this situation and if I had any advice for her.
I started telling her, “These are my beliefs, since you've asked for them. You can take them or leave them for what they are”. I started sharing with her what the bible says about the power of the tongue and how the tongue has the power to speak life and death over people and situations. I told her that this man was probably deeply involved in some serious spiritual darkness and shared my beliefs on how demons can communicate and somewhat tell “fortunes” or whatever one would call them (prophesy, fortunes, the future, ect). She seemed to be very open to what I was telling her and how I believed that this man was speaking death over her life. She said she felt as if this was the case as every time she was around the man she felt discomforted. I gave her some advice on what I thought she should do in relations to staying away from the guy, but what was even better was I got the chance to pray for her and break the curses that this man spoke over her. I started speaking life into her life and speaking out against all the death this man had brought over her. She said she felt a peace about it and we continued on our way.
“Coincidently” we happened to be heading to the same airport the same day at around the same time. So we decided to take the same bus back to the airport. On our 45 minute bus ride, the lady had tons of questions about Christianity and what it meant to be a Christian and follow Christ. She told me all her presumptions of Christianity and what was great was that I got the chance to clarify some of her misconceptions and share with her what it truly meant to follow Christ and live a life devoted to him. She asked how she could start and I told her it was simply making a decision to devote her life to Jesus from this moment on. To call Him Lord, ask forgiveness, and follow Jesus.
The young lady and I are still in contact today. It just amazes me how God opens great opportunities like these to share his love. I hope this story inspired you all. God can use anybody at anytime. I implore you to go and speak life over people. To go and share the love of Christ and to BE the love of Christ. Blessings to you all.
